In this remarkable memoir, John Kim shares his professional pursuit of science and technology, as well as his personal thoughts on his faith, private finance, struggles with race issues as a minority, discrimination in the workplace and society, and his health issues. In this linear narrative, John recounts his early years in Tokyo, Japan until the 1940s, when the political storm of the World War II started gathering in East Asia. John’s father decided to move the family to his father’s hometown of Pyongyang, North Korea. This put his family on a potentially catastrophic situation for four years as the family was trapped behind the iron curtain. But the family escaped from North to South Korea and was freed from the noose of the dictatorial states. Only five years later in 1950, he found himself in the middle of the Korean War. In 1958, his parents sent him to America to receive an American education. He earned a doctorate in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University. The memoir maps out Kim’s employment in America, as well.
